Otoy has released the standalone edition of OctaneRender, its physically based GPU renderer. The software is already commercially available as a plugin for 3ds Max or Maya.

The software boasts the usual range of features for a modern physically based renderer, and comes with free community-developed exporters for 3ds Max, Maya, Softimage, Blender, Cinema 4D, SketchUp and modo.

The price is affordable: just €199 (around $260), the same as the plugin versions, and the software runs on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. It’s CUDA-based, so you will need a suitable Nvidia graphics card.

Also for Poser users
Otoy has also just begun shipping the new plugin edition of OctaneRender for Poser, although according to the sales page of the Otoy website, this is still officially a beta.

Further plugins are in development for DAZ Studio, Softimage and LightWave.
